We have just learned that there will be a presentation made at tonight’s Robinson Township Board of Commissioners Caucus Meeting regarding drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus Formation within Robinson Township boundaries.
This drilling, if allowed, could potentially do more harm to the Township than good without proper regulation. It will attract a significant amount of heavy equipment into the Township, which will accelereate the need for road repairs. As has previously been reported by RCRT and the Post-Gazette, the road program has already taken a back seat in the Township, so any additional road repair needs could likely result in higher taxes to the residents. The HBO documentary “Gaslands” discusses the potential environmental impact of this drilling. So while residents are not permitted to speak at the caucus meetings, we encourage you to attend this meeting to learn about the proposed drilling and to attend next week’s regular meeting and make your voice heard letting the Commissioners know that appropriate regulations need to be put in place (currently there are none) before allowing any drilling to happen.

I would like to thank the Republican Committee of Robinson Township for staying on top of things around the Township. I feel that the Marcellus Shale issue is a BIG DEAL. I am glad that there are responsible citizens taking the time to be involved.
Thank you
The proposed drilling is not necessarily being done on Township property, which would benefit the Township through royalty checks, but within Township boundaries. Drilling done on private property would benefit the property owner, not the Township.
To be clear, we want the residents to be informed and to know all aspects of the situation. The reason for the post was to allow residents the opportunity to hear about the proposed drilling and how the Commissioners plan to ensure the safety of our community.
let’s remember that our entire area is a result of development by coal and railroad companies. the business people involved with marcellus shale should be able to bring money etc to robinson twp.
good chance that royalty checks from the drilling under twp property could pay for road repair.
all the common sense regulations can be easily found as best practices in an area they are alrady working in.
this looks to me to be a terrific time to work the shale.
