Update – Marcellus Shale Drilling in Robinson?

The group that was supposed to give the presentation about the Marcellus Shale drilling did not show up to this evening’s caucus meeting. As it stands, it sounds as if this presentation will be pushed until the October Commissioners’ meeting. This presentation was to be about drilling on Township property, although RCRT previously reported that this presentation was to be on drilling within Township boundaries. Mr. Aaron Bibro, Township Manager, noted that while this was a pro-drilling presentation, he also would be providing an anti-drilling group to make a presentation as well.

See our previous post on the topic.

It also sounds as if some Township residents already have agreements in place with drilling companies, so this is something that is definitely coming to the Township.

As noted in tonight’s caucus, there are currently no ordinances on the Township’s books to regulate the proposed in any way and the PA DEP cannot adequately monitor current drilling. As such, it is up to the Commissioners to establish some rules to protect Robinson Township and it’s residents. This has been a hot topic for several years. It is a shame that we had to wait until the 11th hour to get something together.

We will keep you updated as we find out about new developments.
