Here’s a list of happenings in Robinson Township and the Montour School District over the past week or so. We know that things can get hectic, so we’re going to try to keep a regular schedule on updating everyone on the local news to keep you updated.
From the Post-Gazette:
Robinson hires finance chief – The Robinson Commissioners hired Barbara Swearingen as the new Assistant Manager/Finance Director. It was noted at least three times during the August 10, 2010 Commissioners meeting that she is no relation to Magistrate Carla Swearingen. Also, comments were made at the Commissioners meeting about the Township’s auditors making the referral. We’re going to reserve judgment on whether or not this is a good thing.
Montour school board suspends business manager – As you may recall, back in April, it was discovered that the Montour School Board did not know they had managed to save nearly $30 million for the high school renovations. Suspended Business Manager Sam Reichl was blamed for not informing the Board of these funds, but it begs the question as to how the Board raised taxes in 2004 by 2.56 mills and didn’t know where the money went. So while Mr. Reichl was previously on paid leave, the Board suspended Mr. Reichl without pay at the August 12 Board meeting. This is apparently a continuation of the process to terminate Mr. Reichl.
Montour manager Reichl unpaid, several school leaders depart – In more Montour School District news, at the August 12 Board meeting, the fourth administrator since May has announced a their departure from the School District. Four in four months, plus the continued saga of finding a permanent Superintendent. Why can’t Montour keep people?
That’s it for this week. You can check out our calendar for upcoming meetings, events, etc. If there is something that we missed, just let us know and we’ll get it on the calendar.
