The Montour school system's excessive costs and overly generous teacher's pay and benefits must be addressed. Teacher's retirement plans will break the back of the township soon with retiremennt annuities exceeding $90,000 a year or more for life with 35 years of service. I wrote an article on this subject titled "Tighten Up". it is posted online at http://fedretire.net/?p=448 and outlines the extravagant teacher's pay and benefits package. We have to not only change the school board but our Harrisburg represenativies as well that do not support major teacher and municipal workers retirment, pay, and benefits reform. Residents can not afford to shoulder this burden any longer. The Public School Employee's Retirement System (PSERS) must be converted to a defined contribution plan and pay and benefits capped and reduced and there must be a no strike clause for all state public sector workers.

i would like to add some positive notes to your next newsletter and meeting.
the township has strong leadership based on three important reasons why i choose to live in robinson township and they should be recognized ......the road crews do a fantastic job on our roads during the winter season !!! the police do a fantastic job each day protecting our property and residents !!! and the school system does a fantastic job making our children become successful.
i challenge you to name the other townships that have success in these important areas.

I would like to thank the Republican Committee of Robinson Township for providing a good summary of the meetings. I am very concerned about our Township and the mess that the Democrats have made of it. I am very disappointed with Jesse Forquer. He has not stood up in a way that I expected based on his campaign promises. I am not sure why he ran as a Republican when clearly as he states he is an independent.

To be clear, there is about $150,000 budgeted in 2010 for the road program, which is significantly lower that it has been in the past couple of years. The issue at hand is Commissioner Shiwarski's comments at the July meeting at which he stated that it is likely that no money will be spent on the road program in 2010. So if the $150,000 will not be spent on the roads, what is the Township doing with it?
