WE WON!!! (and we lost...)

Sent on: 2011-11-09 14:52:01
The exciting news of the election is that our endorsed candidates for Montour School Board, Scott Suess and Duane Faith, won two of the three seats up for contention in their district. Congratulations to Scott and Duane! We wish them success in serving their four-year terms and look forward to their leading Montour to a brighter future. The not-so-good news is that our endorsed candidates for Robinson Township Commissioner, Michael Malinsky and Jerry Brouker, were unsuccessful in their campaign to win the two Robinson Township Commissioner seats up for grabs. RCRT wants to thank all the folks that helped us during this election cycle. The support we received was amazing given that this was only our second election cycle to be a part of. The candidates also thank all that helped over the past several months. The candidates give great thanks to their families, who supported them in their campaigns while they spent many nights out knocking on doors, making phone calls, and developing their campaign strategies. This could have not been done without family support. There is another election in two years. It will be here before you know it and WE WILL BE READY. [read more...]

A Clean Campaign?

Sent on: 2011-11-06 17:27:40
Ernie Ricci sent a letter to Republicans stating, among other things, that the Committee for Education First pledged to run a clean campaign – no personal attacks. Yet in that very same letter, Mr. Ricci personally attacks family members of RCRT endorsed candidates Scott Suess for Montour School Board and Michael Malinsky for Robinson Township Commissioner. VOTE NOVEMBER 8 MALINSKY AND BROUKER FOR ROBINSON TOWNSHIP COMMISSIONER VOTE NOVEMBER 8 SUESS AND FAITH FOR MONTOUR SCHOOL BOARD VOTE for our endorsed candidates because they care about you, your children, and the future of the Montour School District and Robinson Township. They are focused on the issues not personal attacks. Who is Ernie Ricci? Mr. Ricci is the President of the Committee for Education First and apparently is unaware of what the terms “clean campaign” and “personal attacks” mean. He, like his partner Jack Earl, Treasurer of the Committee for Education First, like to attack the families of these candidates rather than let you know about the true issues about the School District and Township. Do you want to vote for candidates backed by these people? Let’s set some things straight…RCRT was focused on the Township Board of Commissioners for the 2009 [...] [read more...]

Town Hall about Jobs and Economic Growth in PA

Sent on: 2011-07-11 12:48:35
We have been asked to share this information with our RCRT supporters: Dear Concerned Pennsylvanian, Pennsylvania has one of the worst climates for job creation in the nation. The good news is that positive change is beginning to occur. We achieved a huge, hard-fought victory recently when Gov. Tom Corbett signed into law commonsense unemployment compensation and lawsuit abuse reforms, and a state budget that controls government spending that has grown beyond taxpayers’ ability to pay. However, there is still much more work to be done to improve the Commonwealth’s competitive standing. Citizens to Protect PA Jobs has invited Gene Barr, vice president of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, to participate in a series of town hall meetings regarding the future of job creation and economic growth in the state. Barr will discuss policy changes needed to continue Pennsylvania on the path to prosperity; field questions from attendees; and let us know what we can do to help enact pro-jobs legislation. I hope you will participate in this informative session featuring Gene Barr, elected officials from across the area and fellow concerned citizens. Event Details: A free public forum regarding job creation and economic growth in Pennsylvania Where: [...] [read more...]

Vote Suess and Faith for Montour School Board on May 17,2011

Sent on: 2011-05-16 21:35:59

,

Tuesday, May 17 is Election Day. We need your help!!

The Republican Committee of Robinson Township is endorsing SCOTT SUESS and DUANE FAITH for the Montour School Board. These are the only two candidates we are endorsing and are asking you to support on May 17. We are not endorsing any other candidates and are not affiliated with any other candidates, groups or committees.

Reasons to vote for SCOTT SUESS and DUANE FAITH:

SCOTT SUESS and DUANE FAITH have 6 daughters all under the age of 13 in the School District. * Quality in education is as critical to them as it is to you * Their opponents have NO children at the grade school level * In fact, for the next school year, only one opponent will have a child in high school

SCOTT SUESS and DUANE FAITH are NOT current School Board members * Their opponents are either a current School Board member or are running hand and hand with one

SCOTT SUESS and DUANE FAITH are both business professionals and have MBA's from Robert Morris University

SCOTT SUESS and DUANE FAITH have absolutely NO ties to the "Establishment" as outlined in the April 3, 2011, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette front page article. We encourage you to read the entire article.

Vote for SCOTT SUESS and DUANE FAITH this Tuesday, May 17th - Election Day!!!

Our kids can't afford for you to stay home on Election Day. Please forward this e-mail to all your friends and neighbors and encourage them to vote!

Marcellus Shale Drilling in Robinson?

Sent on: 2010-08-02 14:05:58
We have just learned that there will be a presentation made at tonight’s Robinson Township Board of Commissioners Caucus Meeting regarding drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus Formation within Robinson Township boundaries. This drilling, if allowed, could potentially do more harm to the Township than good without proper regulation. It will attract a significant amount of heavy equipment into the Township, which will accelereate the need for road repairs. As has previously been reported by RCRT and the Post-Gazette, the road program has already taken a back seat in the Township, so any additional road repair needs could likely result in higher taxes to the residents. The HBO documentary “Gaslands” discusses the potential environmental impact of this drilling. So while residents are not permitted to speak at the caucus meetings, we encourage you to attend this meeting to learn about the proposed drilling and to attend next week’s regular meeting and make your voice heard letting the Commissioners know that appropriate regulations need to be put in place (currently there are none) before allowing any drilling to happen. Obama Says "Go For It"

Sent on: 2010-03-25 18:21:19
This was President Obama's response to the Republican Party's campaign to repeal the health care law he signed earlier this week. The best he could muster was "Go for it." You would think that if this was such a great bill that he would easily be able to list several great reasons for not repealing it. Instead, he quotes Rocky Balboa in Rocky IV when he faces Ivan Drago in the ring. President Obama challenged the Republicans to repeal the law and see how well they fare with the voters. As I recall, polls stated that the majority of Americans did not want this bill passed. Maybe the President was provided contratidicting information from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), which apparently thinks this health care law will actually generate money and eliminate the deficit. Anyway, here's the story as posted at... http://robinsongop.org/blog/2010/03/25/obama-says-go-for-it/

Sent on: 2010-03-20 11:30:54

Spirit of Lincoln Dinner

Sent on: 2010-03-13 19:19:05
Last night, several of us from the RCRT attended the Spirit of Lincoln Dinner organized by the Republican Committee of Allegheny County (RCAC). The keynote speaker was Karl Rove, with comments also being made by US Congressman Tim Murphy, PA Attorney General and candidate for PA Governor Tom Corbett, and candidate for Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley. An interview with Karl Rove is summarized in an article by the Tribune-Review. Our compliments to RCAC for a fine event. There were about 600 attendees, more than any previous RCAC Lincoln Dinner and we were proud to be a part of that. Our group had a wonderful time and enjoyed all of the speakers. Hopefully, RCRT can have a bigger group next year! Although many great points were made by all of the speakers, one thing is clear...it starts from the ground up by groups like ours. We need to support our local, county and state Republican incumbents and candidates. Let our voices be heard here in Robinson and join our fellow Republicans county, state and nationwide in letting the Democrats know that we are not going to sit quietly while they continue to increase spending and the size of government. Thank You, Jerry

Sent on: 2009-12-15 13:13:51
Although last night's Commissioners' meeting was not the last appearance Jerry Brouker will make as a Commissioner (more on that later), it was the last time he would have to participate in the Commissioners' Comments portion of a meeting. Jerry gave a very heartfelt speech, speaking of his days as a citizen's advocate leading up to being elected as a Commissioner in 2005, his time as a Commissioner and the 2009 election. He also spoke of individuals that have inspired him during his years of being involved in the political scene in Robinson Township and the Montour School District. Finally, he thanked all of those that have supported him throughout the years. We thank Jerry for his years of service and passion to do what he believed was right. The RCRT sincerely hopes that this is not the last we hear of Jerry and that he continues to fight for a better Robinson Township.
Some other points from the meeting:
  • There was a lenghy discussion on the refuse and recycling bid. Waste Management won the bid, which includes (finally) a greatly expanded recycling program that will include paper, magazines, certain types of cardboard, etc. So be on the lookout for details. However, it was interesting to note that a question raised by Commissioner Triko prompted a discussion revealing that the bid specs were sent out without being reviewed by the Commissioners.
  • A new CPA firm was appointed. Commissioner Triko again raised some questions regarding the fee quoted by the firm with the lowest fee proposal and whether that firm could do it for the quoted fee based on various issues surrounding the audits performed by Case Sabatini and she asked to table the item until January, a motion that was voted down 3-2. The Democrat Commissioners seemed satisfied that the fee was proper based on an interview - during Executive Session - with that firm. The firm was hired by a vote of 3-2. Note that interviewing a potential CPA firm during Executive Session is improper, just as interviewing engineers during Executive Session was deemed improper several months ago.
  • It was one of the longer meetings, but it was worth it to hear Jerry at the end. If you did not have a chance to hear Jerry's speech, you can catch rebroadcasts of the Commissioners Meeting every Tuesday at 7pm between now and the next meeting on the local cable access channel. A reminder that the Commissioners are holding a budget hearing on December 28 at 12:00 and plan on voting on the budget immediately after the hearing. Based on history, we have little confidence in the budget making process and the accuracy of the budget. We encourage everyone to come to the hearing and make your voice heard that the Township needs to have people on staff that can maintain accurate financial records on which to prepare an accurate budget. Finally, a couple of administrative notes that we hope don't lost in the length of this post. First, just under the title of each post on our website, there is a "Leave a comment" link. We encourage you to comment on our posts so we know your thoughts and feelings and can direct our elected officials and future candiates in the needs of the citizens. You do have to log in to comment. You can create an account with us, or you can log in with your account from Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, or others. So please, let us know how you feel. Please also note that comments are moderated. The last administrative note is that we are changing. RCRT was organized in the middle of a heated election run (as evidenced by the narrow margins between candidates in the November election) and we just kind of went with the flow. Now that the election is over and we have some room to breathe, we are taking time to create a formal mission, goals, and a long-range plan for our events and to get us to the next local election cycle in 2011. We again encourage all Robinson Republicans to attend our meetings, which are posted on the website, to help us meet our... http://robinsongop.org/2009/12/15/thank-you-jerry/

    Election Appeal Results

As some of you may know, Robinson Commissioner candidate Jerry Brouker filed an appeal related to the absentee ballots in various districts and to how certified poll watchers were not permitted to carry out their legally permitted duties on election day. The hearing was yesterday and, although no absentee ballots were thrown out, Judge James did state that based on the apparent minimal amount of time in which it took some districts to count the absentee ballots, there almost had to be "peeking" before the polls closed. Judge James also agreed that the watchers not being allowed into the polling places after the polls closed was improper. You can read more details in stories printed in the Post-Gazette and the Tribune-Review, so we won't rehash the details here. However, this is an important step for the Republican Party in Robinson. RCRT wants to ensure that the election process is handled fairly, properly, and in accordance with the law. RCRT is still in its infancy, being formally organized earlier this year, and we are still learning. But we are growing and we are becoming stronger. We urge you to join us at our future meetings (check our events calendar) and to invite your friends to do the same. It was a close race this year, but with your help we can win in 2011. Please contact us if you are interested in joining our cause. Dates to Remember

Dear , We hope you had a great Thanksgiving holiday. We also wish you all the best during this holiday season. We've had a little break after the election, but it's time to get back to work. Although the next election may seem far away, we only really have a little over a year to get ready for the May 2011 primary, so we need to start planning now! We have some things coming up over the next month or so that we wanted to make you all aware are:
    • December 2 at 7:00 pm, RCRT meeting at Niko's Coffee House.
    • December 14 at 7:00 pm Robinson Commissioners' meeting at which Jerry Brouker will give his farewell speech. After the meeting, we will be gathering at the Brothers Grimm.
    • We are planning another event to happen in the next month or so to start building funds for our next local election cycle. We'll keep you posed on that one as we are still hammering out the details.

      Absentee Ballot Investigation

      Sent on: 2009-11-12 21:59:04
As noted in a previous post, our endorsed candidate for one of the Robinson Township Commissioner positions, Jerry Brouker, was not successful in his bid for re-election. It was a close race, with the difference between Ron Shiwarski, the only Democrat to win a Commissioners spot in this election, and Mr. Brouker being only 64 votes. The official position of RCRT is that Mr. Brouker is not conceding the election and that we are working with the Republican Committee of Allegheny County to determine our options only in relation to the treatment of the poll watchers in three districts as related to their opportunity to observe the counting of the absentee ballots in those districts after the polls closed. You can read more about this issue in the... http://robinsongop.org/2009/11/12/absentee-ballot-investigation/

      Thank You

Well, folks, it didn't turn out how we had hoped. According to the "unofficial" results on the Allegheny County website, Stephanie Triko-Selelyo was re-elected as Commissioner and Ed "Tex" Ritter for Treasurer. In addition, fellow Republican Jesse Forquer, who ran independently of RCRT, was elected to his first term as Commissioner. Jerry Brouker was not successful in his re-election bid. It was a close race. RCRT and our endorsed thank all of you that helped us through this campaign. It was a tough battle, but we will regroup and we will battle again. The next election involving the Robinson Township Commissioners and the Montour School Board Directors is in two years. We need to start getting ready for the next primary in May 2011, which, if you think about it, doesn't give us a whole lot of time to get things rolling again. The website will remain active. Keep checking back for new posts, meeting announcements, and event announcements. Thanks again for all of your support.
